Review |
This is a very detailed book giving everything you need to know about the technology, gear selection and techniques for geocaching. It covers technology in-depth and provides an appreciation and understanding of how things work, for example why there are varying GPS accuracy tolerances over the course of your trips. There are also advance methods; such as establishing position using triangulation and with altitude readings, finding caches using psychological, analytical and metaphysical(!) techniques, and even building improvised shelters using trekking poles! |
Breakdown |
Detailed knowledgable text
Good photographs and illustrations
205 pages of good quality information |
Suitability |
For the technology enthusiastic or serious geocacher who want to develop their techniques to the next level |
|
Overall Summary |
Written from a technical point of view this book is more suited to the advanced geocacher. However, it is not drowned in technobabble and would offer the intermediate geocacher a great appreciation of how multi-million dollars worth of military technology work to support this recreational activity. |

Review |
This books focuses on the topics supporting the activity of geocaching and not the technology behind it which other books do. It provides good advice on outdoor ethics and safety, as well as guidelines for setting caches and methods of finding them using GPSRs, maps and compasses. A very short resource section at the back of the book provides step-by-step instructions for common geocaching activities. |
Breakdown |
A good range of photographs, but few illustrations.
147 pages of straight information |
Suitability |
For the beginner/intermediate geocacher who already owns another comprehensive geocaching book. |
|
Overall Summary |
A reasonable good book that covers most of the topics you would expect on geocaching. Written in no-nonsense english it may not be as entertaining to read as the other books reviewed. It is also not as well illustrated nor categorised and therefore may not be suitable for very young readers. |

Review |
Provide a small introduction into geocaching and decribes many of the other variations of GPS gaming. Information is light and serves only to touch on the various topics associated with geocaching. |
Breakdown |
Has few photos and no illustrations
Lots of online resource links
113 pages |
Suitability |
For the geocacher who would like to find additional online geocaching resources |
|
Overall Summary |
This is more a light reference book than a book that you can sit down and leisurely read. The sections are short and do not go into depth which is probably intentional to limit the book to its "handbook" size. You will be disappointed if this is the first geocaching book that you buy and we would urge you to consider others first. |
